How to Play Cap Space
Cap Space is Hizzle's free salary cap fantasy football game. Sign real NFL players under a $60.0M cap, play a lineup every week, and climb the standings. No draft, no league, no money on the line.
The short version
- Tuesday: new prices post once Monday night's stats are in.
- Sign players from the price list until your 13 spots are full or your cap space runs out.
- Set your lineup: 9 starters score, 4 bench players don't.
- First kickoff (usually Thursday night): signings lock. You can still swap starters and bench players whose games haven't started.
- Monday night: the week is done. Points are final once the stats are in, and the next week's prices post.
Your roster
13 spots: QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, FLEX (a running back, wide receiver, or tight end), K, D/ST, and 4 bench spots. The cap is $60.0M for all 13.
The cap is set so you can't afford every star. Fit a few big names, then find the bargains. The price list's Value column (projected points per $1M) helps.
Contracts: the twist
You pay what you signed a player for, for as long as you keep him.
- His price goes up? You keep the deal. Sign a back at $6.0M, he breaks out and costs $8.0M a week later: you still pay $6.0M.
- His price drops? Hit Re-sign and pay the new, lower price. Drop from $6.0M to $5.0M and you free up $1.0M of cap space.
- Release a player to free his spot and his whole salary. Sign him again later and you pay that day's price.
Getting players before they break out is how you build a team nobody else can afford.

Prices and projections
Prices post every Tuesday: 70% a player's points per game this season, 30% his last 3 games. Players with fewer than 4 games start closer to the bottom. A price doesn't change until the next Tuesday.
Projected points are a guide for the week: mostly his season average, nudged by the matchup. A player on a bye, ruled out, or on injured reserve projects 0. We test them against last season and keep tuning.
Hizzle Score, achievements, and Buck
25 Hizzle Score for every week you play a full lineup, 50 more for the top score of the week, and a pile of Cap Space achievements.
Beat Buck: Buck Kincaid plays too, as Buck's Buffet. A few hours before each lock he signs the lineup with the most projected points under the cap. He's pinned on the standings, never ranked. Outscore him in a week for The Buck Stops Here.
Questions
- Is Cap Space free?
- Yes. Cap Space is free to play with a Hizzle account. There's no entry fee, no prizes, and no betting: it's for fun and Hizzle Score.
- Do I have to draft or join a league?
- No. There's no draft and no league. Everyone signs players from the same price list and plays against the standings.
- Can two people have the same player?
- Yes. Every player is available to everyone. What you pay depends on when you signed him.
- What happens if I forget to set my lineup?
- Your lineup from last week carries over and plays again. Players on a bye or ruled out score nothing, so check in each week.
- Can I change my lineup after kickoff?
- Signings lock at the week's first kickoff. After that you can still swap starters and bench players whose games haven't started.
- How are prices set?
- Every Tuesday, from how each player has played this season, with extra weight on his last 3 games. Prices run from $2.0M to $10.0M.
- Is there head-to-head?
- Yes. When a week locks, every lineup gets one opponent and the higher score wins, for a weekly W-L record. Challenge a friend: if you both challenge each other before the lock, you play each other. Everyone else is paired at random.
- How do I get Hizzle Score?
- 25 for every week you play a full lineup, 50 more if you have the top score of the week, 10 for every head-to-head win, plus Cap Space achievements.
