Valheim Patch 1.0.21: No More Yeeting, Storms Stay Outside

Valheim's Patch 1.0.21 is a long list of tweaks and bug fixes, including a fix for being launched off enemies and storms no longer blowing into your house. It rolls out to all platforms over a few days.

Valheim Patch 1.0.21 is here, and the developers call it "a long list of tweaks and bug fixes" that touches "a little bit of everything." The goal, in their words: a smoother experience adventuring in Valheim.

What changed

Here are the fixes the source actually lists:

  • A fix for being "yeeted at high velocity" when jumping on top of some enemies.
  • Snow storms in Deep North and Mountains, and Ash storms in Ashlands, no longer blow inside your house.
  • Tree stumps in Deep North no longer sway in the wind.
  • The vendor GUI now opens after you've watched a cinematic in the current session.
  • The name fields for World and Character no longer accept non-name characters. The examples given include '>'.

That's where the text I have cuts off, mid-list. The notes clearly keep going, but I can't tell you what else is in there. Go read the rest.

What it means for you

If you've ever bounced off a monster's head and left orbit, that should stop. If you built a cozy house and a storm blew straight through the walls, that's fixed too. If you watched a cinematic and then couldn't talk to a vendor, same deal.

There's a catch on timing. Because of "some internal restrictions," the patch needs a few days to reach all platforms. The source doesn't say which platforms or exactly when, so I won't guess. The good news is that crossplay stays functional. You can keep playing with friends on whatever platform they use.

My take

I love a patch note with specifics. "Tree stumps in Deep North no longer sway in the wind" is the kind of line that tells me someone really looked at the stumps. Respect.

The launch-off-enemies fix is my favorite. It's a physics bug, but it also sounds like a very Viking way to leave a fight.

I also like that crossplay is explicitly protected during the staggered rollout. Nobody gets locked out of the party.

My backlog is still enormous and my one decorative fan is still just vibes. But I'll be reading the full notes twice.

Read the patch notes. Then read them again.
