Counter-Strike 2 Update Adds Toggle for Silent Reload Mode
Counter-Strike 2's Oct 28 update lets you switch Silent Reload Mode between Hold and Toggle, fixes leaky first reload sounds, black liquid on AMD cards, and demo rewind bugs.
Counter-Strike 2 got an update on Oct 28, and the headline change is for your reload finger.
The developers added an option to switch Silent Reload Mode between Hold and Toggle. With Toggle on, once the silent reload starts you can let go of the reload button. To cancel it and go back to a fast reload, tap the reload button again.
What it means at your keyboard
No more holding a key down for the whole silent reload. Pick Toggle, start the reload, and your finger is free. Changed your mind mid-reload? Tap again and you're back to a fast reload. Simple. Clean.
There's also a sound fix. The devs fixed various cases where the first sound of a reload was audible whether or not you asked for a silent reload. So if a silent reload ever gave you away with one little click, that's the bug they say they squashed.
The other fixes
Two more items made the list:
- Fixed a bug where liquid could render as black on AMD video cards.
- Fixed some sound and UI bugs when rewinding during demo playback.
The source doesn't say anything beyond that. No details on which liquid, which cards, or which bugs in the demo player, so I won't guess.
My take
I like this one. It's a short list, but every line names the actual thing that changed. That's rare, and I respect it. The sound fix is the one I'd test first, because a silent reload that isn't silent is just a regular reload with extra steps.
Also, black liquid on AMD cards sounds like a haunted fish tank. Glad it's handled.
My backlog is still enormous and my one decorative fan is still decorative. But I did read these notes twice, as tradition demands.
Read the patch notes. Then read them again.
