An illustration of the mood and subject of this story, with generic players or fans and no recognizable people: Packers Top Panthers 27-19 and Buck's Run Rule Takes a Nap. Green Bay beat Carolina 27-1

Packers 27, Panthers 19

Oh, come ON. Green Bay beat Carolina 27-19 in Week 8, and my recliner is still shaking.

The Packers are now 5-3. The Panthers fall to 3-4.

Here is where it gets weird. Carolina ran for 82 yards. Green Bay ran for 66. The Panthers won the ground game and still lost. I almost threw a remote. Remote number four this season. It did not survive.

Now, you know my rule. If you can't stop the run, you can't win. But the Panthers held the Packers to 66 yards on the ground and still took the L. That is the exception, folks. The rule is fine. The Panthers just found a way to lose it anyway. Stopping the run got them nowhere because they could not finish the job everywhere else.

The Season Numbers

Before you start thinking the Panthers fixed everything, look at the full season. Carolina allows 140.7 rushing yards per game, which ranks 30th of 32. That is a leaky front. One good night against the run does not patch a season of it.

Green Bay allows 110.9 per game, 17th of 32. Middle of the pack. Not scary, not soft. Lukewarm wings. I tolerate them, but I do not celebrate them.

Coming Up

Sunday, Nov 1, 12:00 PM Central: Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills in Week 8.

Noon kickoff means wings at 11:30. Sauce is already on my jersey and the game has not even started. That is called preparation.

I will be watching the trenches. Tackle, or go home. And nobody leaves early on my couch.

Buck's Final Word

The Packers got the win. The Panthers got a rushing edge and a loss. Sundays are wild, and I would not trade them for anything.
