A Rust solo starter base should support a short, repeatable session: controlled entry, a place for your essentials and manageable upkeep. Hizzle recommends designing those functions before choosing a larger footprint.
Plan the functions, then place pieces
Write a short checklist: entrance, work space, storage and the items you need to protect. Leave enough room to move between them. Test the path with the doors open and closed before spending on an expansion.
The developer wiki calls the foundation layout a footprint. An airlock uses successive doors to control entry; honeycomb adds structural layers. These are different purposes, so adding one does not automatically solve the other.
Expand for a reason
Hizzle recommends one improvement at a time. Describe the problem the addition fixes, inspect the material and upkeep costs, then decide whether your next session can support it. “A larger base” is not itself a resource plan.
The cartoons show invented woodland huts, not Rust layouts. This page does not promise a raid-proof design, a tested bunker or an exact raid cost. Current explosive requirements, soft-side interactions and unusual terrain placements need separate evidence before we publish a numerical comparison.
