Enshrouded how to remove Shroud: clearing a root and pushing fog back with a Flame Altar are different jobs. The developer's 1.0 notes set Flame level 11 as the default unlock for altar clearing; custom world settings can lower that threshold.

Choose the job

A root gives a local exploration objective. Do not interpret a temporarily clear chamber as proof that an entire biome is permanently reclaimed. The altar feature instead concerns the protected area around your base.

Single source placement detail: current player explanations recommend starting from clear air at the fog's edge, then checking how the altar's coverage affects that area. Strong existing guides already explain this distinction. Hizzle suggests testing the placement preview and boundary before planning a large building project around a patch of fog.

If it still will not place

Check your world's Flame progression, the relevant world setting and the preview's refusal message. More timer duration is not the same as sufficient Shroud passage protection. UNSURE: every deadly-fog volume, quest-gated area and boundary case. The 1.0 change does not promise global fog deletion or safe entry into all red Shroud.
