Project Zomboid how to climb ladders: in 42.22 Pre-Release, approach a placed ladder and press the default E interaction key or use the ladder tile’s context menu. At this check, that new working-ladder feature is not on Stable 42.21.
Check the branch before the controls
The official 42.22 notes introduce usable ladders placed around Knox Country. The developer describes the testing branch separately from ordinary Stable play. A video showing someone using the new action does not prove your 42.21 installation is missing a file.
Hizzle recommends staying on the branch your run and server require. Changing a valuable save to a testing version simply to reach one roof is a separate decision with backup and compatibility costs.
Use a placed ladder in Pre-Release
- Verify the displayed 42.22-series testing build and the server version, if applicable.
- Approach the ladder and inspect the landing at the other end where possible.
- Press E, or choose the available ladder interaction from the tile’s menu.
- Check the immediate area after moving; a usable ladder does not make the landing clear.
The official notes say zombies cannot climb these ladders, while also advising players to check below before descending. They describe map-placed ladders, not a universal recipe to craft, relocate and stack arbitrary ladders anywhere.
What to do on Stable
Use a route that exists in the current world and branch: an accessible stairway, a properly supported exit system or a different objective. This draft does not invent a Stable keybinding that enables the later feature.
UNSURE: every unusual ladder tile, modded ladder and landing collision. A later patch can change the feature. The checked instructions are the developer’s published method, not a Hizzle climbing test.
