Project Zomboid mods not working: check the exact game branch, the mod’s supported version, its dependencies and whether it is enabled for the world or server you are using. A Steam subscription is not proof that an old Build 41 mod is active and compatible in Stable 42.21.

A useful diagnostic order

  1. Record the displayed game version and the save or server that has the problem.
  2. Read the mod’s current supported version and required dependencies.
  3. Inspect the game’s mod manager and the world/server configuration, rather than assuming a main-menu selection changes every existing setup.
  4. Back up a valuable save before changing its required mod set.
  5. Use a separate disposable, unmodded world to see whether the base problem reproduces. Do not remove required map or content mods from a long save just to experiment.

The official Build 42 overview describes dependency/incompatibility information, load order and presets in the mod manager. Use that information before adding more fixes on top of a setup you no longer understand.

Java loaders need a different compatibility check

The developer’s October 21 statement supports Lua-based modding and says Java modifications to the underlying game are not a supported interface. Updates can break those modifications. A Java optimization mod or loader therefore needs its own current author instructions and compatibility evidence.

Hizzle does not give a universal “paste this PowerShell command” repair. A successful reply in someone else’s thread does not establish that the same script is appropriate for your installed files. Record the exact mod and branch when asking its author for help.

Reporting a base-game problem

The developer asks for bugs reproduced in an unmodded save through the official reporting process. That is different from declaring every modded complaint invalid or promising the clean test will solve it.

Pre-Release 42.22.1 adds JRE integrity checks; that current testing-branch change is not silently described as a Stable 42.21 feature. UNSURE: every loader, mod combination and save migration. No third-party mod code was executed for this guide.
