Deadlock how to dash jump: dash, then press jump during the blue timing cue on your stamina bars. With default controls, that means Shift, then Space. The combination spends two stamina in total, so learn the cost as well as the distance.
Practice the sequence
- Start with enough stamina and an open route in practice.
- Dash using Shift.
- Watch the stamina bars under the crosshair for the blue window.
- Press Space in that window. Do not mash both keys together and assume you performed a dash jump.
- Stop, let stamina recover and repeat toward a piece of cover.
How to slide
Use crouch, Ctrl by default, when moving fast enough or going down a slope such as stairs. A stationary crouch is not the same as a slide. Start by learning a downhill slide, then join it to movement you already understand. There is no fall damage in the current movement reference.
Save a way out
Hizzle's beginner rule: before spending your final stamina to chase, name the cover you can retreat to. McGinnis starts with two stamina, so a single dash jump can consume her starting movement budget.
Ziplines are another travel option: look toward the line and jump when the connection is available. Recent combat can delay connecting. Do not treat a line overhead as an instant escape from every fight.
