Deadlock how to parry: press your parry binding, F by default, as the enemy's melee attack is about to land. A heavy melee has a visible wind-up. Reacting to the hit is more useful than pressing parry whenever someone gets close.
The current normal timing
| Mechanic | Current reference |
|---|---|
| Incoming-melee parry window | First 0.75 seconds of the animation |
| Failed-parry cooldown | 4.5 seconds |
| Successful parry against a hero | 2.75-second stun and +25% incoming damage vulnerability |
The full animation lasts one second unless interrupted by success. Parry is not a general shield against bullets or every ability. Item effects and immunity can change the interaction; these numbers are the normal baseline.
A practice exercise
Hizzle suggests starting at a comfortable distance in practice. Watch the wind-up, press once, then identify whether you were early or late. Repeat without adding a dash or an attack. Only combine actions when you can recognize what the opponent is doing.
If you miss, stop assuming another parry is immediately available. Reposition toward cover and a teammate. An opponent can bait your button, then commit during its cooldown. Deadlock how to dash jump and slide gives you another movement option, while Deadlock how to deny souls: which orb to shoot explains why melee range becomes tempting in lane.
