For global Gladiator PvE, build around Overhead Slam and Rending Blow, with Ruinous Blow preparing your damage window and Rage Burst enabling Slam against bosses. The important transition is total skill level 16 on Overhead Slam, with its cooldown-removal Specialty actually equipped.
Status: Single source for the complete build recommendation. Several references agree on the core interaction, but community pages reuse creators and the detailed client-data reference is one publisher. November 4's full patch notes were reviewed and list no named Gladiator skill changes. Hizzle has not played or tested this setup in-game.
A first group PvE loadout
Use a greatsword. Keep these active skills available: Overhead Slam, Rending Blow, Ruinous Blow, Keen Strike, Leaping Slam and Sword Aura Rampage. The first two form the damage loop; Ruinous Blow is your preparation tool, and Keen Strike helps when MP is the limiting resource. Movement and situational skills still need accessible controls.
A practical four-Stigma learning setup is:
- Rage Burst: opens the Slam opportunity. The data reference describes a ten-second trigger window on hit.
- Lunge Stance: combat-speed support, with a later cooldown-related investment target.
- Zikel's Blessing: an offensive buff to use when you can attack effectively.
- Focused Block: a manually controlled defensive choice for a known blockable hit.
This is a recommendation for a learning group. It does not mean every boss attack can be blocked. Some community sources prefer replacing the fourth slot for damage or personal recovery. Change it for a specific reason, rather than removing your defensive option because another character's damage number looks larger.
Before total 16: build the pieces you have
Spend ordinary skill points on the main attacks, but distinguish base rank from total rank. The client-data reference caps ordinary active-skill point investment at 10; Daevanion nodes, equipment and Arcana can add ranks above that. “Get Slam to 16” is not an instruction to find six more ordinary point purchases in the same menu.
Hizzle's progression checklist:
- Inspect the total rank displayed on Overhead Slam and Rending Blow.
- Review reachable core-skill nodes before taking an expensive board detour.
- Inspect equipment for useful skill-rank lines before dismantling it. Compare the full replacement, not only its rarity color.
- Keep a functioning lower-rank setup while collecting the missing bonuses.
- Recheck the total and selected Specialties after changing gear or presets.
For passives, the global skill-point reference starts with Experienced Counterstrike and Attack Preparation. Treat further damage-versus-survival investment as part of your current role, not a requirement to max every passive before entering a dungeon.
At total 16: choose two options, not three
Reaching the rank makes an option available; it does not equip that option. The referenced Specialty system has two Specialty slots at total 16, with the third opening at total 20.
For a boss-focused starting choice, the client-data build reference pairs Remove cooldown with the Upward Strike chain on Overhead Slam. Its critical-hit option is another available choice, not a third free slot at 16. Other players prefer that option instead of the chain. UNSURE: a universal winning pair for every gear set and encounter.
Rending Blow has its own total-16 option restoring 50 MP on a critical hit. Select the intended Specialty and watch whether your MP remains stable. Its mere appearance in the unlocked list is not enough.
Lunge Stance: 20 is the documented cooldown milestone
The client-data page puts Lunge Stance's critical-triggered cooldown effect at Lunge Stance 20. An older article places it at 15; Hizzle uses the documented level-20 reference as the target, with current live-client confirmation still UNSURE.
The recorded level-20 effect gives critical hits during the buff a 50% chance to reduce skill cooldowns by one second. It is a chance-based interaction, not a promise of permanent buff uptime. Confirm the current tooltip before committing a large shard spend; the skill-data reference still identifies an October 28 client build.
A simple attack priority
- Let the group establish the pull and make sure the boss is safely attackable.
- Use your offensive buffs for a window when you can stay engaged.
- Use Ruinous Blow, then Rage Burst to prepare the Slam sequence.
- Prioritize Overhead Slam during the enabled window, using the selected chain when available.
- Use Rending Blow around the main sequence and recover MP with Keen Strike when necessary.
- Interrupt your damage plan for movement, survival or a required group mechanic.
This is a priority outline, not a fixed script or a guarantee that the same opener suits every boss. Do not stand in a lethal frontal attack just to preserve a positional bonus.
Macros and upgrades: avoid false certainty
Use AION 2 settings for clearer combat for the in-client macro controls. Keep block and emergency movement manual. Community reports disagree about continuously weaving Keen Strike after the developed Slam transition, so this guide does not prescribe a universal delay or claim a measured DPS improvement.
Hizzle's recommendation: compare one change at a time using the game's own tools and visible MP behavior. This guide does not require a third-party damage meter. Exact stat weights, perfect Arcana, universal gear swaps and a current raid-ready damage threshold remain UNSURE. Use AION 2 gear upgrades: belt, amulet and spending to inspect transfer losses before buying a shortcut to a skill breakpoint.
