This Slay the Spire 2 beginner guide starts with Ironclad and one practical goal: reach the next important fight with cards you can use. Hizzle recommends learning a repeatable decision process before attempting a perfect deck or an advanced infinite.

Before you choose a route

  1. Check your game version and whether you are on Main or Beta. This guide’s baseline is Main 0.107.1; it does not silently substitute Beta card values.
  2. Read the starting offer, including its cost. An Ancient reward can change what a useful early card looks like; “permanent bonus” does not mean every offer is free of tradeoffs.
  3. Look ahead for a manageable combination of fights, a rest site and a useful shop. Keep a less dangerous branch available when possible.

A turn that teaches something

Inspect every enemy’s intent. Work out whether your actual hand can remove an attacker before spending Energy on Block. Then cover the attacks that will still happen. Hizzle suggests doing this in that order because a planned kill that misses by one damage can leave a very different incoming turn.

At the reward screen, describe what the deck lacks: immediate damage, a way to hit several enemies, defense or a way to reach important cards. Take a card that addresses a real need. Skip a reward when none improves the deck’s present plan.

After a loss

Review the fight that consumed the health, not only the final death. Did you enter an elite without an answer, buy a long-term improvement while missing damage, or save a potion for a run that already ended? Change one decision next time.

These are researched learning priorities and Hizzle’s editorial examples, not in-game testing or a promised win rate. Exact encounter lines and high-Ascension optimization require further method verification.
