Slay the Spire 2 when to skip cards: skip a reward when none of its cards improves your current deck’s useful turns or solves a relevant upcoming fight. A card can be good in another deck and still be a poor addition here.

Ask three questions at a reward

  1. What does this card let the deck do that it cannot already do reliably?
  2. Can you afford to play it with your present Energy, draw and resource generation?
  3. Which upcoming encounter makes that improvement matter?

If all three answers are vague, Skip deserves consideration. Hizzle recommends naming the job in ordinary language, such as “hit several enemies” or “block while drawing,” before treating a keyword as a reason to take the card.

Two different reasons to pass

An extra attack can be unnecessary when fights already end quickly and bad hands lack Block. A delayed payoff can also be premature when you do not have its resource generator. Those are different problems; “keep the deck small” alone does not explain either one.

Passing every reward is not a plan either. Your starter deck still needs improvements. Early damage that gets you through an elite can be worth taking even if it would not appear in an endgame showcase.

Check what the deck actually draws

Review a recent awkward hand. Was the issue an unplayable card, insufficient Energy, too little immediate damage or simply the wrong sequence? A new card should address the failure you observed rather than add another version of an answer you already have.

Players repeatedly ask about reward skipping and disagree about ideal size. These principles are researched advice and Hizzle’s examples, not a universal auto-pick rule or proof that one deck size wins every matchup.
