Minecraft Nether preparation and brewing route

Enter the Nether with a protected return route and spare portal ignition. Your first goal is blaze rods and useful ingredients, not carrying every valuable item into lava.

Pack before stepping through

Bring armor, a shield, food, building blocks, a pickaxe, torches and flint and steel. A gold armor piece helps with ordinary piglins, but piglin brutes remain dangerous. Record the portal coordinates on both sides and shelter the Nether side before exploring.

Build a minimal ordinary-obsidian portal with a two-wide, three-high opening. Crying obsidian does not complete the frame. Do not use a bed in the Nether: it explodes instead of supplying an Overworld-style sleep and spawn point. Water buckets do not work as a normal Nether lava-rescue solution.

A fortress trip with a purpose

Find a Nether fortress, secure a retreat and fight blazes from cover. Collect rods and look for nether wart without taking unnecessary risks beside lava. Save enough rods for both a brewing stand and blaze powder; powder is brewing fuel and part of Eyes of Ender.

Your first useful brewing chain

1. Fill glass bottles with water and place them in a brewing stand.
2. Fuel the stand with blaze powder.
3. Brew nether wart into awkward potions.
4. Add an appropriate effect ingredient. Magma cream supplies Fire Resistance; sugar supplies Swiftness.
5. Take the finished potions and read their displayed duration before travel.

Fire Resistance does not prevent every kind of fortress damage. Drink it before entering lava, never after betting that your armor buys enough time.

Combine trophy trips

Return a ghast fireball, collect a blaze rod and brew a potion during the base route. Save the five-biome Nether expedition and Wither-skull farming for better equipment. Keep a separate coordinate log for each dimension.
